Wah-Wah-Wah ... Are You Freaking Out About Instagram?? Me Too. What To Do?

Squarespace Website Designer and Business Blogger | Wedding Industry Experts

I have 11.4K followers on Instagram ... oh no, don't clap ... don't even get excited for me!!  My last few posts have had LESS THAN 100 likes each ... and I don't share ugly sh*t!!

OMG, do I share ugly sh*t!!??  F*ck ...

Whether or not I share ugly Instagram posts isn't even the point ... the point is this:  Instagram is getting crafty ... they are ready ... they are saying: SHOW US THE GREEN!!!  They have worked their asses off ... well, actually, Facebook bought it and now they are doing what they do best ... so, let me start again:

FACEBOOK IS READY TO SEE THEIR MASSIVE INVESTMENT INTO INSTAGRAM TURN A PROFIT ... AND THEY DON'T PLAN TO FAIL

If you have most of your business come from Instagram then I would get to formulating a new plan ASAP or get out your debit or credit card and start paying for those ads ... if you feel the decline and are thinking:  I'm sure it's just a lull .. it'll get busy again ... << stop thinking like that.  The glory days of Instagram are over.  Heather, it's just you ... I get so many inquiries and likes and comments and love love love all over the place on Instagram!!  So, I'm good!  Well, I'm super happy for you ... now shoo ... go away ... (LOL) ... let me talk to the majority of us who aren't feeling pretty on IG anymore ...

WE'RE GOING OLD SCHOOL ... AND WE KNEW THIS WAS THE WAY IT ALWAYS NEEDED TO BE!

What do I mean about going old school??  I mean what I've always said on this blog:

SOCIAL MEDIA ISN'T DEPENDABLE!!

Social media is like a booty call ... when you and the other person don't have feelings invested it's fun!  You do your thang and then you head out the door ... you got what you needed and they got theirs ... all good ... but it's not a relationship ... it feels amazing when it's good ... but when you start falling for your booty call and the other person isn't feeling the same way ... the sh*t turns sour and it's never the same.  Consider yourself the one who fell hard for Instagram during the days when there weren't any feelings involved ... and now Instagram is all:  see ya sucker!!!

BUT I THOUGHT WE HAD SOMETHING??

Nope!  Sure, Instagram NEEDED you to grow ... they needed you to love what they dished out ... to feel the highs ... to see all the hearts and the comments ... to see your business GROW!  They got you hooked on their drug ... and now that you're hooked they are saying:  you want more of this??  You like that??  Yeah, you like that.  Well, all this stuff you liked and used for FREE is gonna cost you ... the free sample days are over ...

Now, you can pay.  I probably will end up paying for a few ads here and there ... nothing wrong with paying for ads as a business owner.  But, you also need to make sure you are well groomed in other areas ... those areas are:

  1. Keeping your relationships strong and genuine
  2. Making sure your website is not only visually appealing but also has those UEO and SEO goodies working for you
  3. Building your brand to attract your target market

Those ^^ are all things that NOBODY can take away from you ... I think a lot of people thought that with social media a website was secondary ... not as important ... but that's WRONG.  The first thing I do when I consider hiring a company???

I GO TO THEIR WEBSITE ... DUH!!!

If I find their social media accounts first ... I browse there and then go directly to their website ... if I find their website first ... and I don't instantly HATE it ... then I will pop in to see what they are up to on social.  All doors lead to your company website ... BELIEVE THAT ... people talking about how awesome you are??  Those people who were informed will go to you ... what???  WEBSITE ... seeing your work featured??  Where will they go???  Yep, your website ... Don't depend on social media ... it's overnight success and overnight success can go away because there isn't a foundation for it to stay strong.
