Who Are You Being Directly Compared To? Let's Discuss:

Isn't it the best feeling when a venue approaches you to let you know that:

YOUR COMPANY HAS BEEN ADDED TO THEIR PREFERRED VENDOR LIST!!!!

All your hard work has paid off ... it was acknowledged ... a venue wants to work with you again and again ... and all those clients are just going to fall right into your lap ... easy peasy, right????

NOT SO FAST.

When a venue adds you to their preferred vendor list, it means that your company name and website are listed either in an email or on a 'take home' sheet ... if you are really a shining start in the venue's eyes, they may say a few words about you and your services (major frosting if they do ...) but for the most part, it's up to the couple to then go home and check you out ... and how do they do that???

THEY GO TO THE WEBSITE LISTED ON THE SHEET

... and they probably do that to all the people listed on the list ... which means:

YOUR WEBSITE IS BEING COMPARED TO THE OTHER WEBSITES ON THAT LIST

Is that a good thing??  Is that a scary thing?  I have had a few clients who come to me and say that they know they are losing to their competition based solely on their website ... and how do they know???  They are losing to them based on the list the venues pass out.

AND SO WE FIX THAT BY FIXING THEIR WEBSITE

Your website does matter ... just being on Instagram and having a pretty feed isn't going to cut it ... especially now with the new algorithm changes ... I wrote a blog post about making the people who want to refer you work overtime and it's definitely worth a read ...

If you go to the other websites on the lists passed out by venues or even other companies listed on the same advertising platform as you, how do you stack up??  Does your website far exceed your DIRECT COMPETITION??  Is it looking a little gloom and doom??  Are you seeing that people you are being compared to have recently rebranded or have just been featured on a platform you were hoping to be featured on?  It's important to keep in touch with what your DIRECT COMPETITORS are up to ... not in a 'get all depressed sorta way' ... but in a:

BE EDUCATED SORTA WAY

If you are killing it and inquiries and hires are coming in left and right ... then I'm not talking to you ... you clearly don't need to worry ... but if you are seeing traffic come to your website and it never leads to an action of CONTACTING YOU ... there is a damn good reason for that ;)  And you should fix it!
